A MULTI COMPARTMENT DOMESTIC REFRIGERATOR WITH LOW-PRESSURE RECEIVER
A novel refrigeration system for a multi-compartment,multi-temperature refrigerator will be discussed in this paper. Individual compartments within the unit could be each set and controlled in 1℃ increments, between -20℃ and 15℃.This design offers total flexibility between chilled, frozen and ambient storage. This has the advantage of flexibility to users who can save space and energy as there is no need for separate fridges and freezers. Also shelf life and quality of foodstuffs is maximised through accurate and even temperature control. An additional advantage of the system is its ability to rapidly pull-down and to remove heat from the product. The unit was designed around a novel multi-capillary single refrigeration system with a lowpressure receiver. Each compartment in the unit was over-fed by an individual capillary so that each evaporator operated fully flooded. The low-pressure receiver then acted as an accumulator and liquid sub cooler to ensure no liquid returned to the compressor. The paper will discuss the design theory, construction, development and optimisation.
