ADSORPTION COOLING CYCLES FOR ADSORBENT/ADSORBATE PAIRS AT ASSORTED OPERATING PRESSURES

This paper presents the performance analysis of an ideal heat driven adsorption cooling cycle in both low and high operating pressures. Six specimen of adsorbents and refrigerant pairs such that activated carbon fiber (ACF) of type (A-15)/ethanol, ACF (A-20)/ethanol, silica gel/water, Chemviron/R134a, Fluka/R134a and Maxsorb Ⅱ/R134a have been investigated. The relationships between equilibrium pressures, adsorbent temperatures and equilibrium adsorption concentrations (P-T-W diagram) have been presented. Parametric analysis has been carried out with various regeneration (desorption) and evaporating temperatures. Theoretical analysis shows that the ACF (A-20)/ethanol can achieve a specific cooling effect (SCE) of 344 kJ/kg_adsorbent at regeneration temperature 85℃. Moreover, the ACF (A-20)/ethanol exhibit a coefficient of performance (COP) of 0.7 and is followed by the silica gel/water pair with COP of 0.68 at low regeneration temperature (below 100℃).
