NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON HEAT TRANSFER AND FLUID FLOW CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HOLED BAFFLES

The fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics for a rectangular channel with staggered perforated baffles which holes are arranged in parallel way have been studied numerically under Re number from 1000 to 15000. The standard k-ε turbulent model was chosen, the computation was based on the finite volume method. The SIMPLEC algorithm was used to solve the equations. Compared with the solid baffle channel, some small jet flow appeared behind the baffles which impinged the large vortex when the baffles were changed into perforated ones. So, the boundary layer separations, internal flow swirls and fluid intermingles are taken place. For friction factor, the prediction value is smaller than the experimental data, but the trends are similar. It is found that Nu number by calculation is fitted well with the experimental data.
