ENERGY PERFORMANCE OF A NEW DESIGNED COOLING TOWER WITH ZERO AEROSOL FORMATION

Cooling towers have been spreading widely in urban environment, increasing consequently the risk of legionella. A new design of cooling tower is proposed with zero aerosol formation thus reducing the risk of legionella. The new design is based on counter-current water-air flow on inclined surface. A film of water flows in laminar regime and avoids aerosol formation. This paper presents the evaluation of the energy performances of this new design and summarizes the study of several technical options for improving them. A test bench realized at the CEP has allowed optimizing the different parameters in order to attain comparable energy performances to classical cooling towers.
