CONTAINMENT OF REFRIGERATION INSTALLATIONS RESULTS OF STUDIES

Four years ago, CETIM, Technical Centre for the Mechanical Industry in France, launched an ambitious project in cooperation with the refrigeration and air conditioning industry, in order to help the stakeholders to manage installations in such a way that refrigerant leakage could be prevented.A working group, gathering industrials, laboratories and experts, is monitoring and financially supporting the activity. The French Agency for the Environment and Energy Management (ADEME) is also taking part in the project. The achieved objectives are:·To validate methodologies for leak testing.·To identify the sources of the most frequent leaks and define the remedies.·To develop new standards for the qualification of refrigeration and air conditioning components (one experimental standard published in 2005 for static components, one in the last stage before publishing for semi-static components and another one is in progress).·To establish a “certificate of tightness for the components, which is now in practice.More over, CETIM, has produced new results during this last year:A study on the tightness of brazed jointsThe development of software to assist maintenance services to follow the evolution of leakage of the components of an installation. These results and the main conclusion will be presented in this article.
