EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON DIMETHYL ETHER AS A REFRIGERANT FOR DOMESTIC REFRIGERATOR
The performances of a refrigeration cycle using dimethyl ether (DME) as a refrigerant for domestic refrigerator were theoretically calculated and analyzed. The result of the theoretical analysis indicates that DME yields an increase of up to 8.8% and 8.3% in the coefficient of performance (COP) as compared with R12 and R134a, and its volumetric capacity is almost equal to R12 and R134a’s. The main refrigeration performances of a commercial refrigerator using DME to be the drop-in substitute of R12 were experimentally examined. The results show that the performances of the domestic refrigerator using DME and R12 respectively are nearly the same, and the optimum charge amount of DME in the experimental refrigerator is about 54 g; in addition, its energy consumption is 1.087 kW·h/day which is only 84.4 percent of that of R12. The refrigeration performances of the domestic refrigerator charged with DME as a “drop-in refrigerant could basically meet the requirements of the National Standard of China.
