NUMERICAL STUDY OF BIOLOGICAL TISSUE FREEZING HEAT TRANSFER

A numerical model of phase change heat transfer in biological tissue is established in this paper. The biological tissue is assumed as porous media and the different thermophysical properties of normal biological tissue and tumor is considered. The phase change process occurs in a temperature range. Effective heat capacity method is used to simulate heat transfer and ice crystal growth and thawing process in the biological tissue. The temperature distribution vs. time in biological tissue is simulated. It is shown that the temperature decreases more quickly in biological tissue when the initial cryoprobe temperature is lower and cooling-rate of cryoprobe is faster in the freezing process.
