APPLICATION OF TWO-FLUID MODEL TO THE SIMULATION OF AIR CURTAINS FOR VERTICAL DISPLAY CABINETS

A two-fluid model is set up to describe the flow and heat transfer characteristics of air curtains in a vertical display cabinet in this paper. The original air in the display cabinet is defined as the first fluid, and the inlet air through the air curtains is defined as the second fluid. The exchanges of the mass, momentum and energy between the two fluids are expressed by the empirical relations. The simulation results based on the two-fluid model are compared not only with the experimental data, but also with the simulation results when the conventional k - ε model is used. The comparisons indicate that the two-fluid model enables to predict the thermal stratification phenomenon more significantly than the k - ε model and it shows better agreement with the measured values than the k - ε model.
