ANALYSIS OF ADIABATIC LIQUID DESICCANT ABSORBER FOR HYBRID AIR CONDITIONER

Desiccant compression hybrid air conditioning (AC) system is useful for low humidity applications. The adiabatic absorber of the hybrid system is simulated and analyzed in parallel flow configurations using psychrometric equations, property data of lithium bromide solution (liquid desiccant), and heat and mass transfer equations. The solution to air (S/A) flow ratio is varied in a wide range to identify possible ranges for the two types of hybrid system. The flow ratio can be very low in the range of 0.05 to 3.2% when air is precooled, but for large ratio, the solution has to be necessarily precooled regardless of the condition of inlet air. In both cases, dehumidification is better for higher humidities and lower temperatures of the inlet air. Further, the analysis clearly establishes the feasibility of using the desiccant loop to enhance the dehumidification, thus proving the concept of hybrid system for low humidity air conditioning.
