SIMULATED PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF ROOM AIR CONDITIONER USING R-410A
This paper presents the simulated performance analysis of room air conditioner with R-410A as an alternative to HCFC-22. Due to non-toxic, non-flammable and environmentally safe, R-410A is being considered as long-term replacement for HCFC-22 in new residential and light commercial air conditioning systemsA typical 5.27 kW (1.5 TR) room air conditioner is considered for the study. The air conditions considered are as per the Indian Standards IS 1391 (1992) Part Ⅰ. A public domain Mark-Ⅵ ORNL heat pump design model developed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, USA is used for the simulation of room air-conditioner. Because of higher volumetric capacity and higher pressure of R-410A, there is an opportunity to reduce the size of heat exchanger tubing for equivalent capacity of HCFC-22. Therefore, the outside tube diameters 10 mm, 9 mm, 8 mm, 7 mm, and 6 mm are evaluated. Most of the heat exchangers of existing window air conditioners have outside tube diameter of 10 mm. The simulated result showed better performance for lower operating conditions with tube diameter of 8 mm. For these conditions, the simulated cooling capacity of window air conditioner with R-410A is 5.5 kW for 8 mm tube diameter. An EER is higher in the range 1 % to 6 % as compared to the diameters 7 mm and 9 mm.
