SUPERHEAT EFFECTS ON SYSTEM OPERATION AND CONTROL
In recent years, concerns for thermodynamic performance and operational cost have gained close attention in the air conditioning industry. In part, this increased attention is the result of higher efficiency standards, newly introduced legislation and industry regulations. Thermodynamic efficiency concerns have become even more visible since the introduction of alternate refrigerants with different thermo-physical properties that may adversely affect system performance in certain environments. This paper analyzes superheat effects on system performance and control strategy. The results obtained from a first-order analysis, simulation models and a series of tests are presented and discussed for economized and non-economized system configurations, in terms of performance gains and control adaptability.
