How to Allocate Your Capacity More Effective? An Empirical Study in Semiconductor Assembly Industry
This study proposes an effective resource allocation approach for wire bonders in Taiwan from the perspectives of comparative advantage and opportunity cost and implements it using a decision tree to fulfill the requirement of high resource availability in the semiconductor assembly industry. There are two objectives: (i) when the capability of resources exceeds the need in the market, the proposed approach aims at keeping higher-level resources as available as possible; and (ii) when resource is inadequate to meet the demands; our approach aims at minimizing computation time for a resource allocation plan, given full utilization of resources. Experimental results from a leading semiconductor assembly company have shown that the proposed model outperforms its conventional approach in terms of capability availability of resources and computational time.
