Lead-time Estimation for an Integrated Steel Mill
This paper presents a model of lead-time quotation for a manufacturing system in which the bottleneck process requires a minimum batch size. Customer delivery-date promises take into account processing time, queueing time and time for arrival of the requisite volume of orders to complete the minimum batch size requirement. Results include a monotone optimal policy and dramatic computational acceleration. This research is motivated by the scheduling process of an integrated steel mill.
