Revenue Management in the Airline Industry: An Empirical Study
Since the deregulation of the airline industry, revenue management (RM) has become a practice widely adopted by many airlines. In this paper, we empirically examine the RM practice in the airline industry. Specifically, we study how the operational policies affect airline pricing and revenue. Our results show that capacity, code sharing, overbooking, and tourism nature of the market have significant impacts on price dispersion. We also find that route level revenue increases in price dispersion.
