The Impact of Information Sharing and Advanced Ordering on a Supply Chain with Balanced Ordering
In this paper, we examine the values of information sharing and advanced ordering in a supply chain with one supplier and multiple heterogeneous retailers, where balanced ordering is practised and all parties utilize base-stock policies. We show that both mechanisms save the suppliers inventory cost and there is a substitution between the replenishment leadtime and the demand leadtime when the underlying sequence is properly adjusted. Furthermore, we derive the optimal replenishment sequences for stochastically comparable retailer orders and investigate the impact of redetermining the optimal sequence on unlocking the complete values of both mechanisms.
Inventory two echelons operating characteristics information sharing advanced ordering value of information sequencing.
