Horizontal Coordination in Two Retailers Supply Chain with Substitute Demand

Supply chain coordination usually addresses the coordinating problem between different echelons. Most kinds of contracts are designed and assigned between supplier and retailer. For some cases, there are more than one party in one echelon,we define the horizontal coordination within the echelon. The corresponding mechanism, which achieves optimal group decisions is isolated from outside parties,e.g. supplier.Considering two retailers selling substitutable products, the overstock problem arises from competition in capturing the shifted demand. We introduce the referral contract between the competitors to achieve the group optimal.the retailers first make agreement that if stock out happens, one can refer customer to the other and get part of the revenue per item.We give the analytical proof from game theory point, that the contract coordinates the horizontal supply chain.
