Design and Implementation: Large-scale IPv6 Multimedia Communication System based on SIP
Personal mobile multimedia communication is one of the most exciting killer applications in Next Generation Internet (NGI), while SIP is considered as the key signaling protocol for such application. However, SIP server would be a performance bottleneck when being large-scale deployed. Lots of researches have been done, but most of them only focus on IPv4 and lack of real environment studying. There is still no large scale SIP-based system deployed on IPv6 network by now.In this paper, the design and implementation of a large-scale IPv6 multimedia communication system based on SIP in CERNET2 has been introduced. Different from others, a distributed-centralized hybrid system architecture, in which signal traffic and database load is distributed geographically while AAA are centralized, has been proposed to enhance system scalability and robustness. Moreover, the detailed mechanism and performance evaluation of the system are given. The real environment test results show that the system is scalable, highly available, and could be extended only by adjusting configuration.
