APPLICATION OF FACTOR ANALYSIS METHOD FOR ASSESSMENT OF SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION IN TAIWAN

This research analyzes the existing items in the governments national statistical databank and selects those ones related to the sustainability of the construction industry. The indictor system consists of four layers, from bottom to top the indicator, the indicator category, the core cluster, and the overall performance. By employing the Factor Analysis Method (FAM), all the indicators can be assembled systematically into the overall performance. According to the 1994 to 2005 data of the 43 indicators in Taiwan, the environmental core cluster is in an increasing trend of Sustainable Construction; while the social and the economic core clusters are in a decreasing trend. Following the aggregation of environmental, social and economic core cluster, the result shows a decreasing trend in the overall performance of Sustainable Construction in Taiwan. Results and findings are reported.
