Quantitative Study on the Frontier of International Innovation Theory
Using methodologies of mapping of science, the authors drew the maps of the research frontier of international innovation theory during 1996-2006 in order to identify the current core research domains and hot topics of current research on innovation theory. The present study is based on bibliographic data retrieved from the Web of Science. The data contains all types of documents published in the journal of Research Policy during 1996 to 2006. From the map of core research domains, we found that there are eight core research domains which are innovation-oriented: innovation dynamics, technology innovation policy; innovation determents, innovation systems; management innovation, innovation performance; global S&T policy research; academic research policy, R&D policy; S&T policy of the United States, organizational innovation theory; innovation theory; S&T indicators theory. From the network of co-word betweenness-centrality (1996-2006), we can easily find that innovation is the core topic of S&T policy in the last decade.
