Study on the Influence of Imported Technology on In-house Technological Efforts: Evidence from Chinese Electronics Information Industry
In the study filed of the technology import, a question is that what the influence of imported technology on the in-house technological efforts of firms in developing country is. There exist two opposing views. One view is the substitution theory, which thinks that the technological import will reduce the firms in-house technological efforts. Another view is the Supplementary theory, which thinks that the technological import will stimulate the firms in-house technology effort. This paper suggests that all these two views have limitations. First, they all omit the influence of the technological catching-up stages that firms owe. Second, they all treat firms in-house technological efforts as a whole, and did not consider the influence of technological import on the components of in-house technological efforts. So this paper put forward the hypothesis: For the firms in different technological catching-up stages, technological import has different effects on the components of in-house technological efforts. Using the data of Chinese communicating-device manufactories and electronic enterprises, this paper tested the hypothesis. As a result, this research finds that the data support the hypothesis.
