An Analysis of the Complementary Innovation Mechanism between the STI and DUI Modes

STI and DUI modes introduced by Jensen, Lundvall et al. are the most scientific generalization of the innovation modes. Based on data Jensen, et al.(2004; 2005), this paper draws on the complementarity theory-based approach to analyze the complementarity between STI and DUI. Our results show that the relationship between the STI and DUI modes is non-critical symmetric complementarity. The paper also explores the complementary innovation mechanism between the STI and DUI modes referring to contemporary theories about knowledge learning.
