Commercialising Publicly Funded Biomedical Research: The Australian Experience
In this paper we look at the commercialisation of publicly funded biomedical research in Australia. We look at this in the broader setting of changes in the global biotechnology/pharmaceutical industries brought about by the biotechnology revolution. We look at the Australian industry in a global context, and then examine five case studies of biomedical innovation stemming from publicly funded research in order to understand the role played by the local biotechnology industry in the innovation process. A number of insights are offered on the Australian experience which build a base for future investigation.
