How does Basic Research Affect Technological Inventions in China? A Case Study on Patent Citations Analysis in Emerging Industries
The study of the contribution of basic research to technological innovation would be useful for Chinese government to decide more efficient ways for supporting domestic basic research. While technological invention is an important output of technological innovation. For this purpose, we examine the patenting from China at USPTO in three emerging industry fields. By tracking the citation linkage between patent and its cited scientific research papers, we analyze statistically key issues about time sequence and geographical distribution to find the essence that how basic research affects technological invention.
