Questionnaire Study on Transfer of R&D Resource from MNCs to China: Motivation, Organization Functions and Spillover Channel
The motivation and organization functions of Multinational Corporations (MNCs) Research and Development (R&D) resource transfer have some certain relations with its technology spillover channel in host country. R&D-related FDI inflows in China have urged in recent years, such basic laws of R&D globalization were usually derived from R & D investment between developed countries. Can these laws come into existence in developing host countries, such as China, where technology and economy are comparatively laggard, while market scale is large? This paper is just based on answering the questions mentioned above. Breaking through the technology limitations of R & D investigation method of MNCs in china, this paper uses 7-point Likert questionnaire to investigate MNCs R&D organizations which locate in Yangtze River Delta. The paper design a three level MNCs R&D activity index system, and make factor analysis, cluster analysis, reliability statistics and ANOVA on MNCs R&D motives, function and spillover channel. The results verify the applicability of some general rules in China such as the organization functions of MNCs depend on investment motivation, technology spillover channel of MNCs change according to different organization functions. Meanwhile the paper comes to several illuminating conclusions such as Global technology units are more apt to R&D co operations with domestic organizations, technology transfer units dont prefer exchanging experiences. The result provides substantial proof to think over how to enhance knowledge sharing merchanism between domestic organizations and MNCs R&D units.
