Research on the Relationship of Technological Innovation and Organizational Culture:A Theoretical Analysis

Just as innovate or die is one of the mantras of todays economy, technological innovation (TI) is increasingly recognized as the key underpinning resource. Effective TI that improves the ability of an organization to remain competitive within an uncertain environment requires a technical preparation in material, financial and human resources. Much has been written about the relationship of TI and the above-mentioned aspects. However, recent research shows that without a clear organizational culture (OC), TI will hardly develop in a satisfactory manner. OC has been recognized as an important determinant within TI and this relationship needs to be better understood.Based on the former researches, this paper describes the characteristics of different kinds of TI and OC and therefore puts forward 6 propositions which suggest theoretically that different OCs have different influence on different TI. These propositions help us understand the conditions, functions and interaction of OC in the process of TI in a better way, and give some guidance for the successful implementation of TI.
