Challenges of Managing Knowledge in Chinese Telecommunication Industry: A Case Study of the China Mobile
Chinas entering into WTO has speeded up its reform of the Telecommunication Industry, leading to inescapable changes such as developing teamwork competencies, generating knowledge that benefits the organization, and customer focus. The purpose of this paper is to present an overview of knowledge management, significance and challenges in Chinese Telecommunication Industry (CTI) under such circumstances. The first part of the paper describes the context and contents of KM in broad terms. In the second part, it investigates current situation of Knowledge Management in CTI and draws several characteristics from the further analysis. In the third part, by using case study of The China Mobile Ltd and following Beijing KM projects procedure, some detailed facts has been observed. In the end, the paper concludes that KM strategy should fit enterprise strategy, situation and its self-management styles; IT supporting platform is the foundation, and all round knowledge sharing is the way to achieve sustainable development of KM.
