The Formation and Instability of Virtual Enterprise: A Resource Based Perspective
A virtual enterprise(VE) is usually defined as a temporary alliance of enterprises that come together to share their skills, core competencies, and resources in order to better respond to business opportunities, and whose cooperation is supported by computer networks. However, the mechanisms that cause VE better responding to business opportunities in contrast to joint venture, and merges & acquisitions is still a research gap. Although the instability or dynamic attribute of VE is well acknowledged, the analysis about what factors drive its instability and evolution remains inadequate. Moreover to where a VE may evolve is still unknown. In this paper, we discuss the forming logic of a VE from the resource-based view and study its instability and evolution from a resource dependence perspective.
