Investigation on the Optical Characteristic of the Stressed Photonic Long Period Fiber Grating Made by ARC Fusion Method

The optical properties of arc-fused long-period fiber gratings (LPGs) formed in photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) are presented. The wavelength of the resonant peak and transmission loss are changed by applying an axial and transverse loading on the PCF LPG. Similar to the conventional LPGs, the peak intensity of the PCF LPG is sensitive to the applied transverse loading. The change of resonant wavelength is smaller (~2nm) in an axial-loaded PCF LPG in comparison with that in the conventional SMF UV-fabricated LPG (~10nm).
