Influence of Air Content Entrained in Fluid on the Pressure Transient within High-pressure Vane Pump
This research aims in examining the influence of air content entrained in oil on the fluid noise which generate by pressure transients within the pre-loading chambers in high-pressure vane pump. The pressure gradient is adopted to measure the rate of pressure transients, and the maximum of pressure gradient determine the level of fluid noise. The experiment has been done by the Sundstrand Corporation, shows that the noise of axial piston pump can raise 6dB when the maximum of pressure gradient doubled. In this paper, a model to predict the pressure gradient is proposed in considering the effect of air content to the fluid bulk modulus and density. The computational result shows that the percent of air content in fluid is the most important factor determining the maximum of pressure gradient, and which increases rapidly with the accretion of the percent of air content. Finally, the conclusion is obtained that the air content entrained in fluid must be restricted in order to reduce the fluid noise of pump.
