Experiment Study on Working Performance of Hydraulic Transformer

The new hydraulic transformer (NHT) is a new kind of pressure-flow-controlled component. It has a three-port valve plate and combines the functions of pump and motor in one unit. It is used to adjust the pressure in the common pressure rail (CPR) system and can transform the pressure from the CPR system to any level that meets the requirements of the loads without energy loss in principle. It has been considered as a component with high efficiency, small volume, good controllability and fast dynamic response. So the NHT has been developed fast recently and gradually became a hot point of investigation in fluid power field.In order to realize this concept and make it work in practice, the characters of NHT including working performance must be studied and improved to an acceptable way. Therefore, the second generation prototype of NHT was produced and a test rig of a CPR system, where the NHT works, is built, Numerous experiments conducted center around the working performance of the NHT. Results show that the NHT can realize the transforming ability and can transform the pressure not only from high to low, but also from low to high. And experiment results also express the problems met during the working process, such as the unsteady working condition during certain parameters changing; dead band phenomenon in the small control angle area etc. Reasons that might bring in these problems are analyzed, and the improving ways are also provided. The experiment study on working performance of NHT would be an important reference for further improving the NHT.
