Dynamic Response Characteristic of An Asymmetric Valve Controlling Symmetrical Cylinder System

Actually, there exists the hydraulic system that a symmetric cylinder controlled by an asymmetric valve. For instance, the spool with notches is often used in the valve of construction machinery 1, such as excavator or loader. The combination of notches can obtain different metering areas, however sometimes the metering area of meter-in may be not equal with that of meter-out, in other words, there is asymmetrical in metering areas of two flow directions. This case also appears in the proportion or servo control hydraulic system for many factors such as design or manufacturing tolerance.This paper is concerning with dynamic response characteristic of the asymmetric valve controlling symmetrical cylinder system. Based on theoretical analysis and numerical simulation, the results indicates that the asymmetric valve controlling symmetrical cylinder system may have larger overshoot value and oscillation in motivation of step signal than that of the symmetric valve controlling symmetrical cylinder when the metering areas and its gradients are small. In addition, there is no marked difference between two systems when the valve metering areas and its gradient are large.
