Design of an Electro-hydraulic Steering System for Wheeled Hydraulic Excavator

At present, wheeled hydraulic excavator usually adopts full hydraulic steering system and uses mechanical feedback system to make steering wheel response to the action of the steering handwheel correspondingly. The steering device may run out of order sometimes because of the heavy load of full hydraulic steering system. This paper presents a new kind of electro-hydraulic steering system, which uses a proportional valve as a steering control valve, a double acting hydraulic cylinder as a steering power cylinder. By installing sensors on the steering axis and the steering hydraulic cylinder, the control signal of the proportional valve can be determined by comparing the difference between the steering input signal and steering output signal. Based on the mathematic model of the steering system, the simulation test is carried out. The simulation results show that the electro-hydraulic steering system with a proportional valve control can achieve satisfied performance.
