Research on Scale Breaking with Constant Pressure for Cold-Rolled Strip Steel
As the first process of cold-rolled strip steels production, acid washing is to remove the oxide generating on the surfaces of the steel. In order to obtain better effect of acid washing, strip steel should first go through the scale breaking process. To find out the best way of scale breaking, compression tests, tensioning tests and bending tests were made with different widths, thicknesses and materials of strip steel. It was found that, the mechanical scale-breaking method can make large deformation and generate a lot of cracks on the oxide layer, so acid liquor can seep easily into the cracks to remove the oxide in the process of acid-washing; the scale-breaking effect when the strip steel is bended is the best, and it is directly proportional to the strip steels curvature. Based on the research results, a new scale-breaking method, scale breaking with constant pressure making use of the hydraulic proportional pressure control system, was developed; and devices based on this method had been put into use.
