Development of a Portable Pneumatic Power Source Based on Phase Transition at the Triple Point and Its Application to a Power Assisted Lower Limb
This study is concerned with the development of a novel portable pneumatic power source applicable to mobile applications. Dry ice which is the solid phase of carbon dioxide, is chosen as the source of the power. By using the physical property of carbon dioxide at the triple point, and by controlling the heat transfer from the surroundings, a noiseless, large capacity, light in weight and portable pneumatic power source is developed. As an application, a lower limb (novel power assist) driven by this source is also developed. In this paper, the structure, function and experiments concerned with these devices are described in detail.
