3-Dimension Numerical Simulation of Flow Field for Tissue Engineering Scaffold
In this paper, the Fluent software is used to simulate the flow field of tissue engineering scaffold under the different porosities and the different flow rates to validate whether the pore network processed by the laser on the flank of the scaffolds can effectively improve the performance of the scaffold. The upstream flow rates respectively are 0.5mL/min, 2mL/min and 5mL/min, and the porosities respectively are 50%, 60%,70% and 80%. The tissue engineering scaffolds are supposed as a porous medium. The study is performed with a commercial CFD package Fluent produced by Fluent Inc.. And the sectional velocity figures of various conditions are given in the visualized pictures, the results indicate that the pore network processed by the laser effectively improves the nutrient solutions supply in the scaffold especially for the small porosity and larger flow rate scaffolds. It provides the theoretical base for the further study of nutrient solutions supply and metabolites ejection in tissue engineering scaffold
