Coding of Ore Deposit: A New Approach for Digitization of Mineralization Information
It is important that digitization of basal information of ore deposits in the quantitative prediction and exploration assessment of mineral resources. Inspired from image spectrums of creatures gene, this paper discussed the digitization, visualization and quantitative analysis of ore deposits information through coding technique based on GIS. In fact, the geological dictionary and rules are key circles of mineralization coding. The first, a complete geological dictionary, as one of bases, must be set up before coding. The second, coding of ore deposit must stand all through to the rules as follows: (a) unique of code, (b) structure of code, (c) class of code, (d) enlargement of code, (e) model recognition of code, and (f) the standards of nation and industry. One of the features of mineralization coding is able to turn the important information of each ore deposit into a piece of special numbers, so that translate the qualitative description to digital codes and image spectrums. In this way, take it easy to comparing, statistical analyzing, and visual showing of the main characteristics of ore deposits, as well as digitization of geological and mineral basal information. As a case study, we present in this paper the preliminary results of copper deposits coding in eastern Yunnan province, southwest China.
