Design and Implementation of A Mining GIS/CAD System for Metal Mining

This paper presents a mining GTS/CAD system for metal mining, called Resource GIS (RGIS). Unlike other international mine design and planning software packages with functions of geostatistical analyzing, mine design and schedule under 3D operation environment, RGIS integrates GIS and CAD features onto an uniform operating system, provides 2D and 3D integration operation environment and helps engineers to fulfill their ordinary work efficiently. The paper mainly concerns the system design and system implementation of RGIS. Firstly, the paper introduces a five-level COM framework with less coding, easier maintenance and management, powerful capability of extension and secondary development. Secondly, the paper introduces system implementation on seven special modules, which are database management module, basic GIS/CAD module, section map module, planar map module, drill histogram module, mine design module and 3D modeling and visualization module. Finally, the paper presents an application of RGIS system in Laixin Iron Group, Shandong Province, P. R. China. With intelligent functions of updating latest data dynamically on the planar map, section and 3D geological models, the system changes traditional mining work mode thoroughly, relieves the heavy burden of engineers, overcomes the deficiencies of current mining GIS/CAD software packages, and has gained good effects in some metal mine.
