Web-GIS Authentication and Notarization for Secured Geoinformation
Advanced web-GIS is currently used not only for the geologic experts but also for non-experts, the common people. The recent trend to open data to the public is inevitable because the society requests the useful data infrastructure and the utilization for sustainable safety and a sense of security. Various levels of non-experts tend to use geologic data on the web and are willing to have the confidence or reality of the data confirmation. In order to distribute the secured GIS data, we are testing the web certification process as on-line authentication and notarization. Various consultation companies of geologic investigation are participating this examination of geologic data authentication and notarization on our open web-GIS. The on-line secured data can avoid risks of the anonymity hiding genuine authors, the data alteration, the repudiation of the original source, and the pretending as if the fault data were true. Web authentication establishes the genuine author who creates the data or documents at the certain time. Web notarization validates the data or documents by the identity that really created the data with the special time existence and the integrity from genuine contents without alteration or repudiation. Web authentication and notarization assist the data security as the self-defense tools of certification. We are applying all of our geologic data in digital form of Geological Survey through our public key infrastructure and third-party certification authority.
