A GIS-Based RMR Estimation and 3D Visualization Program for Route Design Works in a Tunneling Project
This study presents the development and implementation of a new program which can estimate and visualize the three-dimensional rock mass rating (RMR) for a tunneling project. The program has been developed in a three-dimensional Geographic Information System (GIS) environment, and provides functionalities for indicator interpolation using borehole and geophysical data. Therefore, it allows the experienced GIS user to use both powerful GIS ftinctionalities to discover spatial patterns of RMR by 3D visualization and some extended functionalities for RMR estimation in a single framework. The developed program was successfully applied to the Daecheong tunneling project in South Korea for route design works. This paper describes the details of the developed program and its application to the Daecheong tunneling project.
