Study on Geographic Information Sharing and Services
With the development of geographic information system (GIS), geographic information was applied in more and more fields. Due to the high cost of production, potential for widespread reuse, value in spatial-analytical overlays, and complex in structure, there is a huge requirement for geographic information sharing and services. Meanwhile, with the development of the Internet and information technique, dynamic and distributed GIServices will replace centralized GIS. GISservices focus on open and distributed services will broaden the usage of geographic information into a wide range of on-line geographic applications and services. Yet its unusual to see geographic information sharing and services among different organizations. The challenges seem to be part technical, and part non-technical. Geographical information sharing environment and services are required to meet these challenges. This paper will review papers concern with geographic information sharing and services, including policies, standards, and technologies, analyze and identify challenges to geographic information sharing environment and services. In addition, the system practice of China sustainable development information sharing and services system will be used as case studies to introduce how to implement geographic information sharing and services on the web.
