Regression Analysis Between Rainfall and MODIS Surface Reflectivity
Estimation of rainfall is influenced by many factors. Although there are many estimation methods aiming at rebuilding the distribution of rainfall, it is very difficult to accomplish this job in a region where not enough meteorological stations exist. Several spatial interpolation methods are proposed to interpolate the rainfall using elevation, slope and aspect, such as the parameter-elevation regression on independent slopes model (PRISM) and the stepwise interpolation approach (SIA). Compared with other ordinary algorithms, these methods can acquire precise result, but with more computational complexity. In this paper, we present a regression analysis to explore the relationship between rainfall and surface reflectivity derived from MODIS image. The experiment result shows that there is a significant relationship between surface reflectivity and the rainfall. This relationship can be used to interpolate rainfall.
