Exploratory Compositional Data Analysis in Geochemistry
Geochemical data are usually compositional in nature. They represent parts of some whole, and the essential characteristic is that they only cany relative information. Tools for the exploratory analysis of such data include, among others, the variation array, the total variance, the biplot, and the balance-dendrogram. They have complementary characteristics which are analyzed and discussed using geochemical data for illustration.
