Characterization of Microtexture Properties of Feldspar in Granites Based on Fractal P-A Model

P-A (perimeter-area) model is used to quantify the irregularities and also to characterize the property of microtexture of feldspar grains of granite samples from Gejiu Sn deposits located in the Southeastern Yunnan, P. R. China, one of the largest magmalic hydrothermal Sn deposits in the world. The P-A (perimeter-area) fractal modeling is here demonstrated to be an effective means to quantify the irregularities of feldspar in the geometries. Five types of granites at different place within granite mass and its contact zone in Songshujiao Ore Field were selected. The areas and perimeters of these feldspar grains were calculated by CIS-based technologies. There is an increase in the degree of deformation of granite from type I to type 5, a DAP (the perimeter-area fractal dimension) increase from 1.01,1.08,1.09,1.11 to 1.19, respectively. The results indicate quantitatively that from the igneous rock body to its inner contact zone the shape of feldspar grains tends to be more irregular, grain size tends to be smaller, and the number of grains increase as increase of the intensity of deformation.
