Research and Development of Flat Panel Display Technologies in Korea

Korean display industry, led by Samsung and LG Group, has been investing more than 10 billion US dollars in the development and production of large-sized, bright, high-definitional active-matrix-liquid-crystal-displays(AMLCDs) and alternating-current-plasma-display-panels (ACPDPs) for recent years since 2001. Samsung Electronics, LG Philips LCD (LPL), Samsung SDI and LG Electronics developed and showed the prototypes of large panel HD LCD-TVs as well as PDF-TVs, whose diagonal screen sizes became larger than 100 inches without any glass tiling. LG Philips LCD and Samsung Electronics also manufactured and commercialized the WUXGA LCD-TVs larger than 50 inches for home theatre and indoor information displays.
