Effect of Ions Trapped on the PI Layer of TFT in VA Mode
The behavior of ions in a liquid crystal displays under an electrical field can influence the image retention of active matrix LC displays1. Experimental and computational studies were performed to understand the effect of ions that are trapped on the polyimide (PI) surface in TFT-VA (Vertical Alignment) mode LCD displays. The experimental results of test cells indicate that some ions had been trapped on the PI surface before a DC voltage was applied. The effect has a significant impact on the selection of LC and PI materials in actual application.
