Novel Transflective LCD Based on Patterned Polarizer Using Photoalignment Technique
A new transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) based on patterned polarizer using photoalignment technique has been proposed. It consists of two optical modes: optically compensated bend (OCB) and low twist nematic modes, which have the same cell gap. Since no double cell gap structure is included in the configuration, the fabrication process could be simpler compared with conventional double cell gap transflective LCD. With the help of photoalignment technique, patterned polarizer could be obtained and domains for OCB mode and low twist nematic mode could be formed. Based on this new configuration, a transflective LCD with high brightness and high contrast could be achieved.
