Lower Threshold Voltage and Less Frequency Modulation Response of Liquid Crystal Display Doped with CdS Nanoparticles
Reduction of power consumption is very important for liquid crystal displays, especially mobiles displays. In this study, CdS semiconductor nanoparticles with two diameters of 3 nm and 5 nm were utilized to modify the molecules of 5CB liquid crystal material. The doping concentrations were 0. 1wt% and 0. 2wt% , respectively. The CdS-doped 5CB LCD cells show lower threshold voltage than pure 5CB LCD cell because of the influence of CdS nanoparticles on 5CB molecules, the threshold voltage can be reduced by 25% at most. Furthermore, less frequency modulation response of the electro-optic characteristics was also found in CdS-doped 5CB LCDs compared with a previous reported liquid crystal display doped with metal nanoparticles.
