AMLCDs for Automotive Application
Recently, AMLCDs are widely used in cars and other vehicles. There are three typical applications for displays in cars: driver information system in the instrument cluster, mid-console display for radio, audio, GPS, etc, , and video entertainment. Different application has different requirement for the display. In this presentation, the requirements for automotive applications are introduced. Different AMLCD technologies are proposed for different applications. Normal TN mode TFT is currently dominated the automotive applications with acceptable performance and cost, while multi-domain vertical alignment (MVA) TFT can provide high front of screen performance which requited by some high end cars. LTPS technology is also desired by automotive application, it not only can improve the display performance, but also decrease the overall cost of the module by integrating system on panel. Dual view display are specially required by automotive application to enable driver and passenger see different content. Overall, automotive application not only provided a new fast growing market for AMLCD, also brought new challenges for display technology.
