High External Efficiency Photonic Crystal Light Emitting Diodes
Using photonic crystal can enhance the light output efficiency of the Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). This thesis is based on two structures to explain the high external efficiency of the photonic crystal. The first structure uses flip chip structure, making photonic crystal onto the two emitting facet. It adds 60% light output efficiency. The second uses wafer bonding process structure, then makes photonic crystal onto N-GaN face. It adds 70% light output efficiency. From two experiment results, we can clarify that photonic crystal enhances the efficiency of LED.
