Computer Aided Design of GaN Based LEDs by APSYS Software
APSYS is a software developed by Crosslight Software Inc. in application to simulation of semiconductor device models. In this paper, computer aided design of GaN based LEDs was discussed. At first, several physical theories and models used in APSYS were introduced. Subsequently, current overflow which is common phenomenon in LED devices was studied. Finally, we displayed the 3D simulation of a typical GaN based LED example. Not only energy band, current, electron and hole concentration distribution, and I-V curve, but also thermal effect and emission spectrum could be calculated and plot by APSYS. Moreover, it could compute optical properties such as optical power and intensity distribution by ray-tracing method. Excellent capacity of numerical simulation provided researchers with powerful tools and also provided theory supports for complicated experiments.
